NC CONCEALED CARRY TRAINING COURSE

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun (NC CCH) Training Course is the model course produced by the North Carolina Justice Academy. Upon the completion and successful passing of the written examination and live fire requirement, the successful students will receive a “Concealed Carry Handgun Training Course” Certificate of Completion that is required when submitting an application to obtain the NC Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP). The Concealed Carry course that an individual attends must meet several minimum standards as set forth by the North Carolina Administrative Code. These requirements include a minimum of eight (8) hours of classroom instruction, PLUS, the range qualification time.

The legal block of instruction must be a minimum of two (2) hours in length. A written legal examination is required. Finally, a shooting proficiency examination is required. The course of fire must be a minimum of 30 rounds with 10 rounds being fired from the 3-yard line, 10 rounds fired from the 5-yard line, and 10 rounds fired from the 7-yard line. The Concealed Carry Training Course will cover the following topics, or it does not meet the minimum state standards: 1) Legal Issues 2) Handgun Safety 3) Handguns 4) Marksmanship Fundamentals 5) Carrying Concealed Safety Issues 6) Presentation Techniques 7) Cleaning and Maintenance 8) Ammunition 9) Proficiency Drills The course will proceed as follows: Classroom instruction will be conducted by a lecture style PowerPoint presentation, coupled with demonstrations and practical exercises. The written examination is multiple choice (True/False), etc. Writing materials will be provided for you. Regular breaks are recommended with one hour for lunch. The class will follow the summer scheduling and will begin promptly at 8:00 am with a 1-hour lunchbreak and will end at 5:00 pm. The Live-fire Qualification will be conducted immediately afterwards on the outdoor range.

PLEASE BRING VALID PHOTO I.D. OR DRIVER’S LICENSE (If you are Active-Duty/Retired Military or Disabled American Veteran, your Military or DOD I.D. will suffice.).

Please bring a minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition (cased, boxed, bagged, or Outside the Waistband Holster (OWB)) along with your handgun that you intend to use during your qualification. Please ensure that your ammunition caliber matches the caliber of the handgun you intend to use. The shooting portion is not difficult. Should you experience difficulty, do not be alarmed. A certified Instructor will be available to assist you as needed. Gun rental may also be available on a cash basis. Check early during the class for availability and rate, Ammunition may also be available, but is not guaranteed.

YOU MUST BRING EYE AND EAR PROTECTION. For persons that wear prescribed lenses, these will fulfill this requirement; all others must have eye protection.

PLEASE WEAR RANGE APPROPRIATE CLOTHING, and in climate weather. Unless there is heavy rain, or lightening during summer training, or snow, ice, or sleet during winter training, shooting will continue.

NOTE:  Certain caliber of ammunition may be in short supply or may be difficult to obtain. Do not wait until the last minute to secure your ammunition. Seating is limited, due to a low instructor-student ratio, so secure yours early. If in the event that you registered late, fear not; you will be scheduled for the next immediate class.
